  REMORTGAGES

Remortgaging involves replacing your existing mortgage with a new one. It is common practice these days for homeowners to regularly switch their mortgage for one or more of the following reasons:

- Saves you money – by remortgaging you can avoid paying high     variable rates when coming out of a low fixed or discounted rate.

- Releasing equity – with the increase in property values over the    past decade many homeowners have equity locked in their    property. Lenders allow you to release funds for any purpose    however some examples of why homeowners release equity are    as follows:

What process is involved?
You can either remortgage with your existing lender by switching to a new product or by changing lenders completely. The work required is very similar to when purchasing a property with the only main differences being you are not actually moving house and you don’t have to pay stamp duty again. A valuation is still required, legal work is required and for the majority of products a lenders administration fee is applicable.
